Trip Leader: Ian Glasspool
Email Address: iglasspool@fieldmuseum.org

Trip Limit: 25

Visit the famous Pennsylvanian age Mazon Creek fossil lagerstatte. This day trip will stop first at the Mazon Creek River at Benson Farm to see the original site at which fossils were collected. From here the trip will continue to the Will County Coal Company Site (close to the Peabody Coal Company Pit 1 site) where there will be an opportunity to spend several hours collecting plant-bearing nodules from the Francis Creek Shale. Support requirements: Field Gear: Geological hammers are essential as are safety glasses, also bring gloves and boots (Wellington boots are best), bags should also be bought to carry drinking water/packed lunch and any fossiliferous nodules. Moderate walking may be required dependent on the stream section and access conditions.

Trip is sponsored in part by the Paleobotanical Section of the Botanical Society of America.
